School of Architecture Miami Beach Pier Museum Competition
The University of Miami’s School of Architecture played host on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, to an exhibition and panel discussion on the work of the winners of an international design competition for a Miami Beach pier museum. The museum, which would stand as a monument to all immigrants who have arrived in Florida in search of a better future, would be located at the end of Fifth Street in South Beach. More than 400 entries from around the world were submitted for the contest, which was organized by Arquitectum, an international architectural competition firm based in Lima, Peru.
The School of Architecture not only hosted the event, which was held in its Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, but two of its faculty members served as competition jurors: Jean-Francois LeJeune, professor and director of graduate studies, and Rocco Ceo, professor and director of undergraduate studies.
